University of Windsor has changed their policy. I came into some new information last week. The university is insisting on the Gateway Program for all homeschool student admissions. I believe that Gateway is a probationary program for "public" educated students who fall below grade level for admissions. Gateway is still being insisted upon even when the student has high SAT scores and other proofs of academic achievements, as stated in their old policy, ie. portfolio, essay etc.

Hi Bonnie,

You're right, the link appears to have changed. A copy of the information that was previously found at that page can be found here: http://messageboard.rainsberger.ca/topic/228988/1/#new which was last verified in June 2009. (It appears to be the same as this original version from 2007, so for two years it was unmodified.)

Best to contact the university and confirm that this information is still accurate. I have an email in to them myself and will share whatever I find. Sometimes, websites change and the information displayed on the website changes, but that doesn't always mean that the policy itself has changed.

I can tell you, though, that Windsor has been pretty consistent about their requirements long before anything was published on their website, so I'm pretty confident that whatever they will tell you should be in the same ballpark as the text above.

In 2005, they wrote to me: "The University of Windsor considers Home Schooled applicants on an individual basis. We ask students to provide transcripts, sample tests, sample essays, course outlines, SAT scores is written. The files are then reviewed by the Dean's Office. "

In 2006, (from a telephone conversation): Windsor will consider home schooled applicants on the basis of a portfolio, standardized test scores and 12U credits. They encourage students to contact them well in advance, and expect external evaluation (tests, credit courses) to weigh strongly in admission decisions.

This is all consistent with the 2007 policy (still on their website as of June 2009) which emphasizes 12U credit courses and standardized test scores (SAT, AP etc.) I do remember speaking with a rep from Windsor on the phone and these scores were very important to them. But at the same time, as long as they had these official marks/scores, they felt very comfortable considering home schooled students. The feeling I got from them was that as long as they could "prove" their academic standing with these externally evaluated means, home schooled applicants were quite welcome.

Sarah, the link to the home school admission page above redirects you to the "Welcome" page but I do not see the home school information. The site has changed. I am lost. Can anyone help me find the page?
