Algoma University College expands degree offerings

Algoma U Unveils New Fine Arts Degree

“Algoma University College continues to expand its degree programs, having just been granted permission to add a new four-year honours program in fine arts. The new Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) degree will begin with its first students in September of 2008.”

Algoma U is located in Sault Ste Marie and is affiliated with Laurentian University. It is home to approximately 1,200 students and offers more than 30-degree options including programs in Computer Science, Business Administration, Fine Arts, Community Economic & Social Development, and Biology.

As I explored Algoma University College’s website, two programs I found interesting were:

Accelerated Second Degree Program in Computer Science (B.A. or B.Sc.)

This program gives students the opportunity to earn an undergraduate degree in Computer Science (at the Sheridan College Davis Campus) in a solid 12 month program. Students must previously have an undergraduate degree in any area, and then this second degree can be completed in just one year!

Diploma to Degree Completion Program

This program allows students with a college diploma to “upgrade” to a university degree, taking into account work done at the college level. Instead of starting over fresh with four years of university study ahead of you, you will have some credits towards your university program awarded based on your college studies. While individual completion time will vary, Algoma U states that, “in general, students studying full-time will take anywhere from 3 to 6 semesters to graduate with a 3-year degree or 5 to 8 semesters to graduate with a 4-year degree.”
